| Editorial Reviews:
Album Description With the soundtrack to American McGee's Alice, Electronic Arts' new video game, Chris Vrenna (formerly of Nine Inch Nails) provides musical menace to accompany the heroine's adventures in a Wonderland gone to hell. The sounds of dilapidated toys and ghostly machinery converge with the haunting ambient electro-soundscape produced and composed by Vrenna.
Amazon.com Chris Vrenna's soundtrack to the American McGee's Alice video game is fittingly twisted. Sounds created with toy instruments and percussion, music boxes, clocks, doors, and sampled female voices (including Jack Off Jill singer Jessicka) are manipulated into nightmarish soundscapes. A harpsichord and a clock ticking over a bed of rhythmic effects invoke a sense of Victorian horror, while also playing off of modern motifs. Fans of the game and connoisseurs of dark and spooky music will be delighted by Vrenna's surreal score. --Bryan Reesman

good soundtrack November 1, 2008 the oddest video game soundtrack I own, and one of the most original. it's a very eerie listening experience. I bought it on Halloween and decided it would make for perfect creepy music to play. I definately recommend it.
Weird, eerie, interesting music from a cool game March 25, 2008 This cd contains great music from the beautiful, eerie game "American McGee's Alice". Anyone who loved the game would probably love this CD as well. The game was beautifully rendered and amazing, and the music is great art in its own right.
I love this game... March 21, 2008 I have had this game since 2001, played it and STILL playing with it. I play it from time to time just because I miss the great characters. I know Sarah M Geller is slated for the movie and as much as I love her, I have to say Emma Roberts would be a much better choice and I am the biggest Buffy fan. Emma is younger plus after watching Nancy Drew the other day I noticed how much she looks like Alice. So listen up powers that be...
Atmospheric and creepy, but..... August 25, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excessive length lessens the impact a bit. Having played and loved the game I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of the excellent soundtrack album. My first impression on listening to it was that most of the songs are padded out to fill a time requirement.
It also suffers from the problem that all soundtrack albums have; sometimes the audio really needs visual clues to better understand what the music is supposed to be about.
Apart from those points, it's worth listening to for aficiandos of game soundtracks, or even just seekers of the unusual. Sounds of childhood innocence (musical box, girlish humming etc.) mix with sounds conjuring up a pseudo Victorian atmosphere (strings, steam machinery etc) and are given a sinister feel. Of course it's all done with electronics, but that's the clever part of it!
Definitely a late night listening experience, preferably with headphones.
A wonderful and unusual soundtrack! July 23, 2007 The soundtrack of the wonderful video game American McGee's Alice is a very experimental work. The music is disturbing, with some odd noises (from toys). It can remind the music from Silent Hill. The only regret is that some of the tracks are not exactly like they are in the game, but the feeling is the same.
