a step above the first album December 28, 2008 This review is in response to what seems like an overwhelming admiration for the first Wood Brothers' disc. Compared to it the latest, "Loaded", yes, is more polished, less raw, I suppose. This is not a bad thing though. I actually went back and bought the first disc based on this assessment. What I found was that Loaded is, in fact (or rather, opinion) the better effort. The songs on Loaded are more distinct, melodic, and soulful. It falls over you like a nice warm blanket, without the ickiness of "easy listening" music. It's just a cool disc. It has a warmth to it that the first one lacks. I won't go song by song; Others have done that well enough. This is a modern folk album, with a great mix of roots and experimentation; The kind of music that you walk into a room and hear for the first time and say, "This is nice!" And upon further listenings, the complexity and depth of the compositions are revealed as well. Probably one of the nicer surprises I've had this year. (in music of course, my life's not that boring) --------- Highly recommended.

Already a fan of The Wood Brothers? You will enjoy this homage to there mother. The covers on here are well done, too.
Completely and utterly fantastic! July 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album is absolutely amazing from start to finish. It ranges from touching melodious folk to gritty and funky. Excellent lyrics and writing, excellent instrumentation, and excellent all around. Get this album!
Mesmerizing June 18, 2008 I was introduced to these guys a couple years ago, heard some live stuff, some burned copies, etc. I fell in love with "that voice" which I now know is Oliver Wood. This CD is just amazing. It is like sitting on a porch with the brothers (and a few guests who've stopped by) and just grooving. I played it non-stop for the first two weeks, and now my husband and I take turns stealing it back from one another. Check out the samples- if you like the voice, buy it. If you like blues-y simplicity, buy it. If you want something to dance or head-bop to, keep looking. I am desperate for them to come near me so I can see them live!
Can't wait for the 3rd album May 11, 2008 I loved the first album and this is just as good.
