5 out of 5 stars WEEP and FEEL HAPPY   November 11, 1998
At 9am Monday 9th November 1998, within a minute of the opening bar I was in tears at the beauty of 'Fields of Gold' being sung by such a pure voice and had to stop the car. Five minutes later I was weeping over the death of someone who obviously had such beauty and love in her soul, and I never knew nor have ever seen her before, and I never will. I pulled myself together to continue the drive to work, and arrived late with a warm glow in my heart, feeling happy at having been taught about the meaning of love.

5 out of 5 stars A gem for a first time buyer   November 8, 1998
This is the first cd I have bought over the internet. Never having heard of Eva before I chose it after reading the reviews and listening to the clips.(thanks Amazon and thanks to the fans) All the other reviewers have got it about right. A magnificent talent, a rich warm voice and who would have thought it possible to give a fresh slant to Over The Rainbow? - so moving, it would bring a tear to a glass eye! I'm spreading the word over here.

5 out of 5 stars Pure grace that makes me want to move   November 4, 1998
I bought this based on the glowing customer comments that I read on this site: over and over, uniformly, everyone who wrote in about this woman's voice has raved. I rarely feel inclined to make any pitches of my own BUT when I listened to this for the first time, I felt absolutely bound by my chair, and my surroundings - I just wanted to get up and move because sometimes, words just don't express what's going on inside. I felt plugged into a current of pure energy.

How wonderful to hear a female voice of incredible depth, emotion, and strength. Nothing sappy, no whining (despite a pretty good reason to), no victim here -- strong and beautiful, emotional and rich.

I read someowhere that she was very shy about performing, and this is hard to understand, considering the scope of her artistic talent. If she was shy, her determination and drive to tour and record despite anxiety adds immeasurably to the generosity of her work. I feel lucky that I can hear this voice anytime I want. Ms. Cassidy is still gracing the world with her beauty, and in this sense, very much alive. Wow! Thanks, Eva~

5 out of 5 stars The voice of an angel   November 3, 1998
The purity of Eva Cassidy's voice is amazing. Her rendition of Sting's "Fields of Gold"; Christine McVie's "Songbird"; and Harburg/Arlen's "Over the Rainbow" leave me with no doubt as to what we can expect to hear should we ever be lucky enough to reach Heaven ( and should it exist!) Eva sings like an angel. I only regret that such a major talent was taken from the world so soon. Don't pass this one up--every cut is a wonder!!

5 out of 5 stars A haunting, musical voice that stops you in your tracks.   October 31, 1998

She displays a top-notch musical ear and yet her voice and choice of music makes her so approachable to the listener. She invites you to listen from the opening track and sweeps you into her musical world. Outstanding.
