fields of gold October 21, 1998 i was driving my car when i heard this and it affected me so much that had to pull over.what a special talent this girl is. wow
Excellent October 16, 1998 I first heard of Ms. Cassidy on my local NPR station late one night. The voice is hauntingly clear and there is truly something special about her style. The only sad thing is that there will be no more recordings, but at least there are a limited number of tracks to enjoy.
Eva Cassidy has an extraordinary clear and soulful voice October 2, 1998 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The first time I heard this artist I was shocked that I had never heard her before. She brings to this CD a richness and clarity of voice which makes it a sheer joy to hear. Her renditions of old favorites are comfortable and create new standards for performance. Her musical range in style and performance is unusual. She possessed and demonstrates enormous vocal gifts. It is tragic that Eva lost her life to cancer at such a young age and that her immense talent is no longer to modern listeners with the exception of the few recordings which are being released posthumously. Some of the songs on this CD hint at her own impending death, such as "The train is coming" and "Wade in the Water." For people who love music expertly performed and beautiful lyrics that touch the heart, this CD is a must. Eva was truly a songbird if there were ever one. Buy this CD for yourself and for those you love. --MAA31301.907271710/online-4.amazon.com--
moving, soulful, pristine, a must have artist September 23, 1998 I tried out this album by way of other music shopping at the site and was intrigued by the samples. After hearing the album, I can only say that I have not been so moved by a voice and talented life like this in a long time. If you enjoy the solo voice then this is a must have album. I am so glad that Eva was captured so lovingly on tape for someone like myself who never had the privilege to enjoy her shy live performances. Thanks Amazon and Blix Street Records.

Eva Cassidy puts to shame every singer to make a record in the past 25 years. When you listen to "Songbird," you'll know how it must have felt to hear a very young Aretha Franklin or Billy Holiday for the the first time. It's as if the hand of god herself reached down and spoke through Eva Cassidy. Make no mistake -- you'll play this one over and over again.
